This was for someone who takes a lot of trips, and wants his cigars ready to smoke at a moment's notice.
Approximately 9" x 12" x 1.5" deep, and built out of a piece of straight-grained Koa. Koa's a very hard wood that reminds me of the American Walnut, except the grain is a much lighter mix of browns, coffees, and tans. The lid insert is a piece of curly Koa(my last piece, actually) that I had to split and reglue to make the width of the humidor lid. There was a beautiful transition of grain and colors in it which we decided to take advantage of for the lid insert. A knothole in the wood gave me a good idea of where the hygrometer would have to end up.
This one has a lacquer finish. Although you probably can't tell, the lacquer is more of a crystal-clear finish than varnish, and does not impart quite the same golden tone overall to the wood underneath. But with a piece of wood like this to start with, who cares...
